Radifrequency

Radiofrequency lesioning refers to delivery of high frequency electrical current in Rf range ( 500 khz) to the patient tissue via Rf electrode to induce biological effect, such as the thermal destruction of nerves, that carry pain impulses. Rf methods used in pain management can be subdivided in following category

Waveform/ set temperature
Thermal rf
Pulsed rf

Electrode polarity
Monopolar rf
Bipolar rf

Indications

  • Facets joint denervation: cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacroiliac joints
  • Dorsal root ganglion radiofrequency : cervical, thoracic, lumbar and s1
  • Sympathetic nervous system radiofrequency: sphenopalatine ganglion, superior cervical ganglion, stellate ganglion, thoracic sympathetic chain, splanchnic nerves, lumbar sympathetic chain, ganglion impar.
