Ozone Gas

Ozone is a gas made of three atoms of oxygen with a cyclic structure Ozone is produced by the medical generator from pure oxygen passing through a high voltage gradient(5— 13mV) according to the reaction: 3 O2 + 68,400cal --à 2 O3

Therapeutic Applications

Syringe Applications: (intradiscal, i/m, s/c, intra- articular)

Ozone has an effect on the inflammatory cascade by altering the breakdown of arachidonic acid to inflammatory prostaglandins. As a result, by reducing the inflammatory components, there is a subsequent decrease in pain.

Anti-inflammatory & Analgesic
Peridiscal inflammatory tissue has elevated levels of proteinases, produced by macrophages suggesting the immune response in disc protrusion.

Ozone inhibits the release of these proteinases & the release of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins & bradykinins.

Ozone is a strong inhibitor of powerful inflammatory agents & pain producing TNF.

Ozone also facilitates the release of immuno-suppressant cytokines like IL-10, TGF beta 10 Herniation can impinge on the venous and arterial flow and cause phlebostasis and arteriostenosis, which leads to a serious hypoxemia of the area. By applying the ozone to the herniated site, hyper-oxygenation of the area occurs, which reduces the pain by direct and indirect mechanisms.

This mechanism of action is the direct effect of the ozone as a rapid and strong oxidizing agent. The ozone molecule breaks down some of the glycosaminoglycan chains in the nucleus pulposus and reduces their ability to hold water, thereby diminishing the size of the herniation and subsequently contributing to pain relief.

The stimulation of fibroblastic activity by ozone will result in the initiation of the repair process by stimulating collagen deposition

USES
Intraarticular O3 therapy for pain control

The Effect of Ozone Therapy for Lumbar-Herniated Disc (Lumbar Disc Ozonotherapy)

Ozone Discectomy( Ozonucleolysis ) is a minimally invasive therapy for disc prolapse with radiculopathy.
