PRP

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP) is a ground breaking non-operative treatment option that relieves pain by naturally promoting long lasting healing of musculoskeletal conditions.

The platelets are best known for their importance in clotting blood. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which are very important in the healing of injuries.

Growth factors, stored within platelet α-granules, include platelet derived growth factor (PDGF), insulin like growth factor (IGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), platelet derived angiogenic factor (PDAF), and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β).

Growth factors are involved in key stages of wound healing and regenerative processes In the search for better modalities in the nonsurgical treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) has recently been thrusted.

The concept behind its use as a nonsurgical treatment modality is to place it directly into areas of soft tissue pathology, via percutaneous injection, to facilitate tissue regeneration. Healing process of injured tissue are purposed to be mediated by numerous growth factors and bioactive proteins secreted by PRP's platelets following activation.

PRP can be injected into

  • Tennis elbow (common extensor tendinosis)
  • Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
  • Jumper's knee (patellar tendinosis)
  • Achilles tendinosis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Hamstring tendons
  • Adductor tendons
  • Gluteal tendons

PRP can also be used in

  • Trochanteric bursitis
  • Knee MCL tears
  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Hip Osteoarthritis
